The dog is a domesticated subspecies of the wolf, a mammal of the Canidae family of the order Carnivora. The cat, also known as the domestic cat or house cat to distinguish it from other felines, is a small carnivorous species of crepuscular mammal that is valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to hunt vermin, snakes and scorpions. The lion is a member of the family Felidae and one of four big cats in the genus Panthera. With exceptionally large males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight,[2] it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger.
